{"id":35,"date":"2000-09-05T11:13:41","date_gmt":"2000-09-05T19:13:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.suchland.com\/craig\/?p=35"},"modified":"2000-09-05T11:13:41","modified_gmt":"2000-09-05T19:13:41","slug":"supercomputers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.suchland.com\/craig\/?p=35","title":{"rendered":"Supercomputers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve always followed the progress of supercomputers beginning with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.net.org\/html\/history\/detail\/1964-cdc6600.html\">CDC 6600<\/a> (my first &#8220;real&#8221; computer was the CDC 6400 at the University of Washington) running up to 3 million instructions per second, so I found this announcement by IBM of their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.research.ibm.com\/bluegene\/\">Blue Gene<\/a> supercomputer that will be capable of one quadrillion (that&#8217;s 1,000,000,000,000,000) operations per second (one petaflop) pretty interesting.
