It&#8217;s finally getting dark enough here, and solar activity has really picked up as we approach the peak of the 11-year solar cycle.  The BBC has a story about a <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/hi\/english\/sci\/tech\/newsid_936000\/936606.stm\">giant sunspot<\/a> currently moving across the face of the sun.  You&#8217;ll find current images over at the <a href=\"http:\/\/umbra.nascom.nasa.gov\/images\/latest.html\">NASA Solar Data Analysis Center<\/a> site.  The <a href=\"http:\/\/umbra.nascom.nasa.gov\/images\/latest_eit_304.gif\">SOHO Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) full-field He II 304 &Aring; image<\/a> shows the sunspot very well (although I myself prefer the <a href=\"http:\/\/umbra.nascom.nasa.gov\/images\/latest_eit_171.gif\">Fe IX, X 171 &Aring;<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The coming months are going to be great for the Northern Lights!
