Galileo over Io

NASA’s Galileo orbiter is scheduled to fly just 100 kilometers over the volcanic surface of Jupitor’s moon Io on January 17, and should produce some spectacular images (assuming the camera doesn’t suffer any more damage). The manuever is intended to send Galileo on a trajectory that will impact the surface of Jupitor in September 2003. Galileo has operated in orbit more than three times longer than its originally planned mission.
