IBM’s Millipede Project

I had not heard of IBM’s ‘Millipede’ Project which has demonstrated data storage density of a trillion bits per square inch (20 times the densest magnetic storage available today) until John C. Dvorak mentioned it in his column. IBM Research has images and animations that illustrate how the highly parallel nanotechnology storage device operates. John thinks this technology is behind IBM’s lack of attention to the traditional disk drive business where they’ve always been a leader.
